Wield Typography

The ability to wield typography is one of those things that is a clear indication of a talented designer. Being able to craft type well and thoughtfully takes a deep understanding of the inherent complexities and a keen eye for the minute and subtle details. This book contains a collection of 1,000 instances of thoughtful type usage along with credits that note what fonts were used in the design. Like its predecessor, 1,000 Graphic Elements, the photography in this book focuses in on the typography so readers can get an up-close look at the work.

UU Design!

The UU Challenge is a really interesting contest where 10 chosen artists were asked to create their own vision of the UU, in adition to that, they open the challenge to young designers around the world so the best 40 entries will be competing agaisnt the ten chosen artists and to make it even more interesting, they will have one representative that will create an image as well for the grand final. In the end, the 51 finalists and their works will be compiled into a book.

The Nestlé Social Block is located in Graneros, Chile. Designed by the Chilean office GH+A / Guillermo Hevia, the building was planned over a variety of climates strategies and racional usage of energy sources. JQuery ThickBox

ThickBox is a webpage UI dialog widget written in JavaScript on top of the jQuery library. Its function is to show a single image, multiple images, inline content, iframed content, or content served through AJAX in a hybrid modal.

JQuery Color Picker

Farbtastic is a jQuery plug-in that can add one or more color picker widgets into a page through JavaScript. Each widget is then linked to an existing element (e.g. a text field) and will update the element's value when a color is selected.

JQuery Image Slider

Carousel is a jQuery plugin for controlling a list of items in horizontal or vertical order. The items, which can be static HTML content or loaded with (or without) AJAX, can be scrolled back and forth (with or without animation).

JQuery Image Cycle

Rather than have transitions occur on a timer you can choose to have transitions occur in response to a click event. The prev and next options are used to identify the elements which should be the triggers for prev/next transitions. When used in conjuction with timeout = 0 the effect is a manual slideshow. The values for prev and next can be a DOM element or any valid jQuery selection string.

InnerFade is a small plugin for the jQuery-JavaScript-Library. It's designed to fade you any element inside a container in and out.

In a recent web application I was working on, I had a need for the “Ctrl + S” hotkey to save an entry to the database. Being a an avid jquery fan, I immediately searched the plugin repository for any plugin that fits the bill. I was not very surprised to find a very comprehensive jshotkeys plugin. It was feature rich and addressed all the requirements for hotkeys in a jquery powered application and obviously my requirement was fulfilled as well.

Architecture of Alejandro Aravena

Alejandro Aravena was born in 1967 and graduated in architecture from the Universidad Catolica de Chile in 1992. Since 1994, Aravena began executing his own works, including buildings for Universidad Catolica, Faculty of Mathematics, Faculty of Medicine, Torre Siamesa and the School of Architecture. He was a professor at the Universidad Catolica de Chile, Instituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia where he got his graduate degree in History and Theory, and visiting professor at Harvard. Since 2006 Aravena is the CEO of ELEMENTAL S.A.
